Atlantic City man arrested after shooting himself in the finger
Atlantic City police arrested a man Tuesday after authorities say he accidentally shot himself in the finger inside his home, then initially claimed an unknown person shot him while he was walking to a store. Investigators said they found a handgun, a spent shell casing and blood inside the residence, and the man was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition and possession of a defaced firearm.
ATLANTIC CITY — Police arrested a city man Tuesday after he allegedly shot himself in the finger.
At about 5 p.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Beach Avenue for a report of a man shot. They found Henry Alvarez, 37, with a gunshot wound to his finger, according to police. Alvarez told officers he had been shot by an unknown person while walking to the store. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus.
Detectives later found evidence of a crime scene inside Alvarez’s home, including a handgun, a spent shell casing and blood, police said. Alvarez was placed in custody at the hospital.
He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition and possession of a defaced firearm. He was sent to the Atlantic County jail.
