According to authorities, on November 22, 2020, Derrick and another unidentified man broke into a home on the 100 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue in Atlantic City. The jury found that the men entered the house intending to burglarize it but unexpectedly found two victims inside a bedroom.
One victim, a man identified as J.O., was shot in the chest and later died from the wound. The other victim, a woman identified by the initials H.A., woke up to a gun pointed at her face.
