Atlantic City police arrested 25-year-old Gerald Spence after receiving a tip that he was distributing heroin and carrying a weapon. Police said detectives found him at Iowa and Pacific avenues with cocaine in hand, and a further investigation allegedly uncovered two loaded handguns, 1,600 bags of heroin, marijuana, cocaine, and cash.
A man recently sentenced to probation was arrested in Atlantic City with drugs and two guns, according to police.
Gerald Spence, 25, was arrested after Detective Nick Beradis received a tip that a man was distributing heroin and was in possession of a weapon, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. Detectives followed Spence to Iowa and Pacific avenues, where they saw him carrying a large bag. As detectives approached, Spence had a bag of cocaine in his hand, according to the report, and he was taken into custody.
Police said a further investigation found Spence in possession of two loaded handguns, 1,600 bags of heroin, 38 grams of marijuana, a small amount of cocaine, and $4,323 in cash.
Spence, who has addresses in Atlantic City and Galloway Township, was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance; two counts each of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon while committing a CDS offense; and one count each of possession with intent to distribute, possession with intent in a school zone, possession with intent within 500 feet of a public zone, and certain person not to possess a weapon.
Court records show Spence had been sentenced to two years of probation in February as part of a plea deal in a drug and conspiracy case from the previous year. He was being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
