Teen surrenders in Atlantic City shooting
Normalized · Saturday, August 17, 2019
A 16-year-old boy turned himself in after police identified him as the suspect in an Aug. 2 shooting in Atlantic City that wounded a 58-year-old man during an attempted armed robbery. He was charged with aggravated assault, robbery, and weapons offenses.
A 16-year-old boy wanted in connection with an Atlantic City shooting earlier in the month turned himself in to police. Police were sent to the area of New York and McKinley avenues at about 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 2 after a ShotSpotter alert. Officers found a 58-year-old man who had been shot. According to Sgt. Kevin Fair, an investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit found that the suspect approached the victim and attempted to rob him at gunpoint. During the attempted robbery, the teen shot the man and fled. Detectives later positively identified the teen, who surrendered at the Public Safety Building on Friday. Because of his age, his name was not released. The teen was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and robbery.
