ATLANTIC CITY — An Atlantic City man and a Pleasantville man were arrested after a June bar fight escalated into a shooting that left one of the men wounded.
Police said officers responded June 29, 2019, to Sovereign and Fairmount avenues after an alert from the city’s gunshot detection system and found evidence of gunfire. About an hour later, Anthony Allen Jr., 30, of Pleasantville, arrived at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point with a gunshot wound.
Detectives determined that Allen and Damond Whealton, 35, of Atlantic City, had been fighting inside Proud Mary’s at 821 Fairmount Ave. Police said the two men then left the bar and exchanged gunfire outside.
Both men were charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons not to possess a weapon. They were taken to the Atlantic County jail.
Allen was arrested Thursday by detectives in the Special Investigations Section. Whealton was arrested Aug. 11 by Officer Sean McGettigan.
