Atlantic City police said they responded to two stabbings and a shooting within less than six hours on July 8, 2024. Two adult men, James Knight and Isaiah Byrd, were arrested and charged in separate stabbing investigations, while a 17-year-old male relative of a 15-year-old shooting victim was charged in an apparently accidental shooting but was not yet in custody.
Atlantic City police said they responded to two stabbings and a shooting in less than six hours on Monday, July 8, 2024, and charges were filed in all three investigations. In the first stabbing, officers were called at about 8:30 a.m. to Tennessee and Atlantic avenues for a report of a fight between two men that ended with one man being stabbed. Police found a 20-year-old Atlantic City resident with a stab wound and took him to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division for treatment. Officers got a description of the suspect, and people in the area directed them to 37-year-old James Knight of Atlantic City. He was taken into custody without incident. Police said Knight had a knife and also had an active arrest warrant. He was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. About 45 minutes later, officers responded to Pennsylvania and Arctic avenues for a fight involving several people. There, they found a 32-year-old Atlantic City resident who had been stabbed. The victim was later taken to a local hospital for treatment. While speaking with the victim, K-9 Officer Nicholas Grasso was told that the suspect, 29-year-old Isaiah Byrd of Atlantic City, had run into a nearby residential building. Officers located Byrd, who police said had tried to change his appearance, and took him into custody. Byrd also had an active arrest warrant. He was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and was remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Just before 2 p.m. that afternoon, a 15-year-old girl arrived at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division with a gunshot wound. Detectives determined the shooting happened in the 300 block of Rosemont Place and was believed to be accidental. Police charged a 17-year-old male relative of the girl with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was not yet in custody at the time of the report. Police noted that all charges are accusations and those charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
