Camden man charged with attempted murder in Atlantic City
Atlantic City police charged 37-year-old Ricardo Berrios of Camden with attempted murder and other offenses after a July 5 shooting on South Florida Avenue that left a 53-year-old Atlantic City man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police later arrested Berrios at a motel on Pacific Avenue along with Jason Ekkers and Jacqueline Kane, and said drugs were found after the arrests.
A Camden man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting in Atlantic City over the Fourth of July holiday.
According to the Atlantic City Police Department, officers were called during the early morning hours of Friday, July 5, to the first block of South Florida Avenue, where they found a 53-year-old Atlantic City man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Detectives with the department’s Violent Crimes Unit identified the suspect as 37-year-old Ricardo Berrios of Camden, who police said also had several outstanding warrants. Investigators learned Berrios was staying in a motel room in the 3600 block of Pacific Avenue with 32-year-old Jason Ekkers of Atlantic City and 28-year-old Jacqueline Kane of Hammonton. Police said Ekkers and Kane also had warrants out for their arrests.
When the three left the motel room, they were arrested without incident. Police said that after the arrests, Berrios was found with nearly 37 grams of cocaine and 73 bags of heroin. Ekkers was allegedly in possession of small amounts of heroin and cocaine.
Berrios was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, tampering with evidence, two counts of possession of CDS, two counts of possession of CDS with intent to distribute, two counts of possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public zone, money laundering, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.
Ekkers was charged with two counts of possession of CDS and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Kane was charged with contempt of court. All three were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Atlantic City Police Department. The article notes that charges are accusations and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
