ATLANTIC CITY — Three Atlantic City men were arrested on various drug and weapons charges in two separate incidents Thursday afternoon, police said.
In the first incident, Officers Josiah McKeller and Matthew Stollenwerk responded to complaints from citizens and merchants about a group of people loitering and possibly selling or possessing drugs in the 1800 block of Atlantic Avenue, according to police. Police said the officers saw two men on bicycles stopped in a lane of traffic speaking with the driver of a parked car, causing traffic delays. When officers approached, the two men rode away south on Indiana Avenue. Officers chased them on foot before losing sight of them near Pacific Avenue, police said.
Police said the two men were later spotted by surveillance center officers monitoring the department’s Boardwalk cameras. Officers Alberto Valles and Christopher Dodson responded and found the men near the beach block of Michigan Avenue.
According to police, one of the men, Marqua Graham-Hampton, removed a handgun from his waistband and threw it under a parked car. He was arrested without incident and was allegedly found with marijuana and $700 in counterfeit money.
Police said the other man, Tyshand Lamar, ran from officers but was apprehended near Bally’s hotel and casino bus lobby. Police said Lamar was found with 320 bags of heroin, marijuana, $1,500 in counterfeit money and $120 cash.
Lamar was charged with multiple counts of drug possession and distribution, intent to distribute, obstruction of the law, unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to possess a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a weapon while committing a drug offense, tampering with physical evidence and conspiracy. Police said he also had two active arrest warrants in Pennsylvania and was additionally charged with contempt of court and being a fugitive.
In a second case around the same time, Sgt. Darrin Lorady was investigating ongoing drug activity at the Carolina Village apartment complex on North Carolina Avenue, police said. A group of men had been reported loitering around the complex. Police said Juanife Wynn, 27, of Atlantic City, was found with a small bag of suspected drugs around his neck, a marijuana cigarette and a loaded handgun in a bag. He was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point bullets and drug possession.
All three men were taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Atlantic City pending a first court appearance.
