ATLANTIC CITY — An Egg Harbor Township man was charged after police said he dropped a handgun during a foot chase.
According to police, officers were sent to the area of the 800 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard after a ShotSpotter notification of gunfire. Police said officers found evidence that shots had been fired in the area and were told that two potential suspects had fled the scene in a car.
Five minutes later, Sgt. T.J. Moynihan saw a car matching the description and three men, including one who matched the description of a suspect, in the 1000 block of Arctic Avenue. As Moynihan approached the group, one man, later identified as Terri Bailey, 33, ran from police. Police said Bailey removed a loaded handgun from his waistband and dropped it on the ground as he fled. The handgun was recovered.
Moynihan and Officer Thomas Gilardi chased Bailey to the area near the Schoolhouse Apartments on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard but were unable to find him.
On Thursday, detectives from the city’s Special Investigations Section found Bailey leaving a home in the 100 block of Woodpecker Road in Egg Harbor Township. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.
Police said Bailey was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice. He was held in the Atlantic County Jail pending a first court appearance.
