Police said Lawrence Trader, 51, of Atlantic City was charged after investigators concluded he intentionally shot himself on Feb. 23 inside a house on Reading Avenue. Authorities said the handgun was stolen from Ohio and that Trader was legally barred from possessing a weapon.
A 51-year-old Atlantic City man who has been hospitalized since suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound six weeks earlier has been charged with illegally possessing a weapon and receiving stolen property, police said. On Feb. 23, police responded to the 1500 block of Reading Avenue for a report of a shooting. Inside a house, officers found Lawrence Trader, 51, with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was taken by medics to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Division in serious condition, according to police. Investigators determined that Trader had intentionally shot himself. Police said they recovered a handgun that had been reported stolen from Ohio. Trader was later charged with possession of a weapon by a person barred from having a weapon and receiving stolen property. Police said he was issued a summons and is expected to appear in court after he recovers.
