Atlantic City police say two women were identified and arrested after an 11-year-old boy was struck by gunfire inside a residence on North Rhode Island Avenue on May 25, 2024. Police said the suspects came to confront a group after a prior altercation, smashed a vehicle window with a hammer, and then fired shots. The boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Atlantic City police said that on May 25, 2024, at 10:26 p.m., officers responded to a report of a juvenile who had been shot in the 100 block of North Rhode Island Avenue. When officers arrived, they found an 11-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers rendered aid until he was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division. Police said his injuries were non-life-threatening. According to the Atlantic City Police Department, an investigation by patrol officers and detectives in the Violent Crimes Unit identified two suspects: Yanirah Davis and Yontay Cooper. Police said the two women arrived in the area with a hammer and a handgun to confront a group with whom they had previously had an altercation. Investigators said they smashed a vehicle window and then began shooting at the group. One of the bullets entered a residence and struck the 11-year-old boy while he was lying on the floor. Police said Egg Harbor Township, Pleasantville, and Galloway Township police assisted in the investigation.
