Atlantic City man charged in July shooting

ATLANTIC CITY — Police on Tuesday charged an Atlantic City man in the July 22, 2017, shooting of another man.
According to police, the defendant, whose name is unclear in the available text extraction, was already being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility on an unrelated matter when he was charged.
Detectives from the department’s Violent Crimes Unit conducted a nine-month investigation into the shooting. Police said officers responded at about 10:20 p.m. to the 500 block of Arctic Avenue for a report of gunfire and found Orion Austin, 22, of Atlantic City, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Austin was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, for treatment.
Police said the defendant was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
