Atlantic City police said a city man was arrested several hours after an early morning shooting Friday that left another man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Investigators later found the handgun in overgrown bushes with help from Public Works crews.
ATLANTIC CITY — Detectives, police officers and Public Works personnel used shovels, rakes and a weed-whacker to locate a handgun used in an early morning shooting Friday. Police said patrol officers responded around 2 a.m. Friday to the 100 block of Tennessee Avenue for a report of gunfire. When officers arrived, they learned that Marcelino Martinez, 26, of Atlantic City, had been shot. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus with a non-life-threatening wound, according to police. The Violent Crimes Unit investigated and determined that Robert Creek, 34, of Atlantic City, shot Martinez, police said. Investigators said Creek fled after the shooting and believed he discarded the weapon as he ran. Police searched the 100 block of Ocean Avenue, which they said was covered in debris and overgrown trees and bushes. The handgun used in the shooting was found by a Public Works employee clearing the dense brush. Creek was located and taken into custody several hours after the shooting. Police said he was charged with aggravated assault and multiple weapons offenses. He was being held in the Atlantic County jail in Mays Landing.
