Police: AC man with gun found passed out in apartment hallway
Atlantic City police said a man who was found unconscious in the stairwell hallway of an apartment building Friday was arrested after officers discovered a handgun and heroin. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, and later charged.
ATLANTIC CITY — A city man who passed out Friday in a stairwell hallway of an apartment complex was arrested after police said officers found a handgun and heroin.
Police were called to the apartment building on the 300 block of Jacobs Terrace at about 5:45 a.m. Friday after someone reported seeing Joel Gonzalez, 28, asleep on the floor in the hallway. Officers Lorenzo Bethea and Byron Hargis responded and found Gonzalez unresponsive. When they rolled him onto his back, they found a handgun, police said.
Gonzalez was taken by ambulance to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus. Police said he was charged with possession of a handgun and possession of 22 bags of heroin. After he was discharged from the hospital, he was lodged Friday at the Atlantic County jail on $20,000 bail.
