A 17-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder while riding a dirt bike on North Carolina Avenue in Atlantic City on Tuesday night. Police said he suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus. Detectives found shell casings near North Carolina and Drexel avenues and continued to investigate.
ATLANTIC CITY — A 17-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder while riding a dirt bike on North Carolina Avenue on Tuesday night. Police were called around 8:20 p.m. to the 800 block of North Carolina Avenue for reports of a shooting. There were multiple 911 calls and a ShotSpotter notification, according to the article. Officer Eric Knuttel arrived and found the teen at Drexel Avenue and South Carolina Avenue, about a block from where police found shell casings on the sidewalk on North Carolina Avenue. The boy’s identity was not released. He was taken by ambulance to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Investigators said he was traveling on a dirt bike when he was struck by gunfire and crashed. Neighbors reported hearing about eight shots fired in quick succession. Detectives marked off roughly a half-dozen shell casings. Residents said it was the second gunfire incident on South Carolina Avenue in the previous three days. The investigation was being led by the department’s Violent Crimes Unit. Anyone with information was urged to contact Atlantic City police.
