Authorities in Atlantic City said that on January 7, 2024, at about 10:06 p.m., the Atlantic City Police Department received a ShotSpotter alert for multiple gunshots in the 1100 block of Monroe Avenue. Responding officers found two people suffering from gunshot wounds. Kevin Gayle Jr., 37, of Marmora, was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was taken to AtlantiCare Medical Center, city division, where he was pronounced dead. Lyndon Russell Jr., 24, of Atlantic City, was also found with a gunshot wound. He was transported to AtlantiCare Medical Center, city division, where he was treated and admitted to the hospital. Authorities said the cause and manner of death for Gayle are pending an autopsy by the South Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. The case is being investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department Violent Crimes Unit.
