ATLANTIC CITY — A local man and two teens were arrested early Sunday in connection with a shooting in the 600 block of North Virginia Avenue that wounded two men.
Police said officers responded to reports of gunshots in the area and found Emanuel Skinner, 23, of Pleasantville, and Rahim Cherry, 20, of Egg Harbor Township, with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. They were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Campus.
During the response, officers tried to stop a car fleeing the scene that they recognized as having been stolen at gunpoint Saturday, police said. The vehicle, occupied by five males, led police on a chase and eventually crashed after failing to negotiate a turn at Brigantine Boulevard near the Atlantic City Connector entrance.
Dashawn Reynolds, 19, and two unnamed juveniles, ages 15 and 16, were arrested after the crash and a foot chase, police said. Two other males who had been in the vehicle escaped on foot. Police said they recovered a handgun loaded with hollow-point bullets from the floor of the car.
Reynolds was also wanted for allegedly cutting off his electronic monitoring bracelet. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point ammunition, resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, and hindering apprehension. He was taken to the county jail on $104,000 bail.
The 15-year-old and 16-year-old were each charged with two counts of aggravated assault, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point ammunition, resisting arrest, and receiving stolen property. The 16-year-old was also charged with eluding and hindering apprehension. Both juveniles were taken to the Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City.
The article said this was the second shooting in the block in four days. Police said they were still searching for the two other people involved in Sunday’s shooting, and investigators had not determined whether the recent shootings were related.
