Atlantic City man accused of gunning down councilwoman's son outside motel ordered held
An Atlantic City man charged with murder and weapons offenses in the fatal shooting of Kendall Roseborough, the son of a city councilwoman, was ordered held pending trial. Prosecutors said Roseborough was shot outside the Martinique Motel on Pacific Avenue in late July, and court records allege surveillance video captured the shooting.
An Atlantic City man accused of fatally shooting the son of a city councilwoman outside a motel last week was ordered held in jail pending trial Friday after his attorney consented to detention.
Lamar Johnson, 39, is charged with murder, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon and conspiracy to commit murder in the death of Kendall Roseborough. Roseborough was the son of 2nd Ward Councilwoman LaToya Dunston.
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and a probable-cause affidavit, police responded to a 911 call around 8 p.m. July 29 reporting a man lying on the sidewalk outside the Martinique Motel on Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City. Officers found Roseborough unresponsive with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. He was found at the foot of steps at the motel and was pronounced dead.
The affidavit says surveillance video showed Roseborough retreating down the steps after getting into an altercation with multiple individuals. Johnson was then allegedly seen reaching over a railing and shooting Roseborough. The affidavit also says Johnson was seen going in and out of Room 205 before and after the shooting, and that his fingerprints were recovered from the room.
Johnson, wearing a jail-issued orange jumpsuit, did not speak during the detention hearing before Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Donna Taylor. Although the defense consented to detention, attorney John Bjorklund said he intends to challenge probable cause after receiving more evidence, including photos, video and witness statements.
Johnson had been released from prison in November after serving six months for hindering apprehension, theft, terroristic threats and drug offenses, according to the article. He is due back in court Sept. 11 for a pre-indictment conference.
The article says Roseborough's death was Atlantic City's third reported killing of 2025.
