Atlantic City man arrested for fatally shooting a man with a shotgun in January
Authorities charged an Atlantic City man in the January killing of Steven Loughney Jr., who was found dead in his home from a shotgun wound. The arrest followed a nine-month investigation by police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
ATLANTIC CITY — A city man was charged Tuesday in the January killing of Steven Loughney Jr.
According to authorities, the suspect was arrested at a restaurant in Pleasantville after a nine-month investigation by police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
Authorities said Loughney, 28, was killed in his home on Metropolitan Avenue during a robbery. His body was found Jan. 3. An autopsy performed the next day determined that he died from a shotgun wound to the right groin.
The suspect was charged with murder, felony murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree conspiracy to unlawfully possess a shotgun. He was taken to the Atlantic County jail on $500,000 bail.
The investigation was continuing, and authorities asked anyone with information to contact the county Major Crimes Unit or Atlantic City police.
