Atlantic City police investigated two separate shootings that wounded three people within about two hours early Saturday morning. One man was found shot in the back in the 300 block of Arctic Avenue after midnight, and two more men were found wounded later in separate locations, including one with life-threatening injuries. Police said detectives were investigating and asked anyone with information to come forward.
Three people were shot in two separate incidents within two hours early Saturday morning in Atlantic City, police said. Just after midnight, police found one victim shot in the back in the 300 block of Arctic Avenue, where a large party was being held, according to Sgt. Chris Barber of the Violent Crimes Unit. His injuries were considered life-threatening, and he remained hospitalized at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus. Shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, 911 calls and alerts from the city's ShotSpotter gunshot-detection system brought police to the 1000 block of Sewell Avenue, where officers found Andrew Smiley, 20, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken to the hospital. A second victim was found in the 700 block of Maryland Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the head. Police identified him as Bryant Marsh, 25. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The article says this was the second time Marsh had been shot that year; he previously was wounded in the leg in May. The report also notes that the earlier May shooting was believed to be retaliation for another shooting in which Rashid McVee, 29, of Atlantic City was the target, according to previous police statements. In that case, the men charged were Shawn Smith, 27, of Pleasantville, and Trevin Allen, 25, of Galloway Township. Detectives Charles Stuart and Joseph Procopio were investigating the Saturday shootings. Police asked anyone with information to contact Atlantic City police or CrimeStoppers.
