ATLANTIC CITY — Police investigated a shooting Monday in the 800 block of Robinson Avenue that wounded one person. The city’s Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene. According to the article, a ShotSpotter gunshot-detection system originally alerted police to gunfire in the area at about 2:50 p.m. Neighbors said they believed the man who was shot was a local contractor. One neighbor, Carletta Briscoe, 70, said she was among several people who responded immediately after hearing gunshots. She said the victim was shot while in his truck. Briscoe said the victim’s friend was holding a towel around the man’s neck area and asked her to call 911. Although the initial call indicated a man had been shot in the head, police had not confirmed that. The victim was taken to the hospital, and detectives were awaiting word on his condition from hospital staff. Another group of neighbors, who were not named, told the newspaper they saw three male youths run toward the victim’s truck when, apparently, a man in the passenger seat ducked. They said they saw the victim losing a lot of blood before police arrived. The neighbors also said that before the shooting, they saw the youths pull up a T-shirt that they believed had been used to conceal a gun. They said the shirt was left at the scene and confiscated by police. Briscoe said the victim’s friend in the passenger seat was a student from Atlantic City High School, but she did not know his name. Another witness, Muh-Ki Abdullah, 20, said he was walking from the Stanley Holmes Village area when he heard the shots. A recent Atlantic City High School graduate and grocery store employee, Shahadat Talukder, 19, said he did not initially see the shooting but heard about it after coming to the front of the store where he worked. Forensics officers closed an alley between Robinson and Indiana avenues as a crime scene. Police did not comment at the scene and had not provided further updates following the shooting.
