Atlantic City police arrested a city man Friday after officers stopped a car on North Maryland Avenue, smelled marijuana, and found a loaded stolen handgun. He was charged with multiple weapons and drug offenses.
An Atlantic City man was arrested Friday after police found a stolen gun during a motor vehicle stop in Atlantic City.
Officers Anthony Abrams and Brian Hambrecht stopped a car in the 700 block of North Maryland Avenue and noticed a strong smell of marijuana, according to police. During the investigation, they found passenger Kareem Rex with a loaded .380-caliber handgun. Capt. Frank Brennan said the weapon was loaded with hollow-point bullets.
Rex, 28, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, receiving stolen property, and cocaine and heroin possession charges.
The article says Rex had a prior criminal history and had previously been convicted as a juvenile of unlawful possession of a weapon. It also says he was allegedly involved with the 800 Blok gang, whose members were charged in a sweep in 2014.
He was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on $275,000 bail.
