An Atlantic City employee has been charged in the shooting of a Venice Park resident Tuesday night.
Police said the victim was shot in the left leg in the 200 block of Sheldon Avenue, according to Lt. Robert Campbell of the Violent Crimes Unit. Officers responded to a disturbance call before 9 p.m. Tuesday, and the investigation found there had been an argument. The victim arrived at the hospital on his own.
William Hall, 37, who lives where the shooting took place, was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, Campbell said. Bail was set at $50,000.
Hall's sister, Niketa, said her brother was home alone when someone tried to kick in his door. She claimed the wounded man, who she said is the uncle of Hall's child, was there because of an ongoing family dispute. She said her brother did not have a gun and believed the man may have shot himself.
Campbell said he could not comment on those allegations because of the pending charges. On Wednesday, Hall was additionally charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Police did not provide his criminal history.
City records show Hall had been employed since July 2005 and worked in the Street Repairs Division as a laborer. The victim was treated and released.
The investigation was conducted by Detective Joseph Iacovone.
