Atlantic City police were investigating two separate shootings that wounded two men within about eight hours Saturday.
A man was in serious but stable condition after being shot in the head in Stanley Holmes Village that afternoon. Just before 4 p.m., the ShotSpotter gunshot-detection system alerted police to the third village of Stanley Holmes, Lt. Robert Campbell said. Officers found Jibreel Harmon, 25, of Atlantic City in the 300 block of North Kentucky Avenue shortly before 4 p.m.
Harmon was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. Police said the bullet fragmented and came to rest behind his heart.
Police were reviewing surveillance footage in the area to see whether it captured the shooter.
Earlier, at about 8 a.m., ShotSpotter alerted police to the 100 block of North Kentucky Avenue, but officers found no crime scene or victim there.
About a half-hour later, Courtney Griffin, 22, walked into the hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot.
Police said it was the second time Griffin had been shot that summer. On July 18, he was shot in the face about five blocks away, in the 300 block of North New York Avenue. In that earlier shooting, two people were wounded: Griffin was found at the scene, and Rashad Newsome came to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his leg. No arrests had been made in that case.
On Saturday morning, police canvassed the area of the ShotSpotter alert, but no evidence had been found. Detective Joe Iacovone was investigating. Anyone with information was asked to contact Atlantic City police or Crime Stoppers.
