Shooting at an AC casino garage leaves man critically wounded
A 41-year-old Atlantic City man was critically wounded after being shot multiple times Saturday night in the Ocean Casino Resort parking garage in Atlantic City. Police arrested a 55-year-old Atlantic City man about 20 minutes later and said he was carrying a handgun reported stolen in South Carolina. Authorities said the shooting appears to have been an isolated incident.
Atlantic City police said a 41-year-old city resident was critically injured after being shot multiple times in the parking garage at Ocean Casino Resort on Saturday night.
According to police, officers responded at about 9 p.m. to a report of a man who had been shot inside the garage. They found Robert Phillips, 41, of Atlantic City, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the lower half of his body.
Phillips was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition.
Police said that about 20 minutes after the shooting, officers found the suspect, identified as Ronald Rivers, 55, of Atlantic City, on New Hampshire Avenue as he was trying to flee. He was arrested, and police said he was in possession of a handgun that had been reported stolen in South Carolina.
Rivers was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain person not to possess a weapon, and possession of a stolen handgun.
Based on a preliminary investigation, Atlantic City police said they believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that there was no immediate threat to the public.
