Shooting Investigation Leads to Arrest of 3, Including Victim, in Atlantic City
Atlantic City police said a shooting investigation stemming from an April 30 incident on South Bellevue Avenue led to the arrests of three people: shooting victim Jeffery Luckett, suspected shooter Jayce Thomas, and Terika Timberlake. Police said Luckett drove himself to the hospital after being shot, and officers allegedly found a handgun in his vehicle. Detectives later located Thomas, who they said passed an object from his waistband to Timberlake; she was then found with a handgun reported stolen from Louisiana. Thomas was later charged in connection with the shooting after lab testing.
Authorities in Atlantic City said a shooting investigation led to the arrest of three people, including the man who was wounded.
According to the Atlantic City Police Department, during the early morning hours of April 30, 43-year-old Jeffery Luckett of Mays Landing drove himself to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center-City Division after being shot in the first block of South Bellevue Avenue in Atlantic City. During the investigation, officers allegedly found a handgun in Luckett’s vehicle, which was parked at the hospital.
Detectives later identified 32-year-old Jayce Thomas of Pleasantville as a person of interest in the shooting. On the afternoon of May 10, two Atlantic City detectives located Thomas in the same block where the shooting had occurred. Police said that as detectives approached him, Thomas removed an object from his waistband and handed it to Terika Timberlake. Timberlake then began to walk away but was stopped by police. She was allegedly found in possession of a handgun that had been reported stolen from Louisiana in 2016.
Following lab testing by the New Jersey State Police, Thomas was charged in connection with the shooting.
Jeffery Luckett was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. Jayce Thomas was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a large-capacity magazine, two counts of certain person not to possess a weapon, and receiving stolen property. Terika Timberlake, 35, of Atlantic City, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a large-capacity magazine, certain person not to possess a weapon, and receiving stolen property.
All three were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Police noted that the charges are accusations and that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
