Atlantic City woman arrested with gun on way to hospital with shooting victim
Police said an Atlantic City woman was arrested after officers stopped an SUV leaving the scene of a shooting in Atlantic City and found a loaded ghost gun inside. The driver, a 32-year-old man from Galloway Township, had been shot in the abdomen but was expected to survive. A 17-year-old boy was later arrested on weapons-related charges, while no arrests had been announced in the shooting itself.
An Atlantic City woman was arrested after police found a loaded handgun in a vehicle that was taking a shooting victim to the hospital, according to authorities. A 17-year-old boy was later arrested as part of the weapons investigation.
Police responded at 8:42 p.m. Saturday after a ShotSpotter alert reported 18 rounds fired in the 700 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Atlantic City. As officers were heading to the area, they saw an SUV speeding away from the scene, according to Lt. Kevin Fair.
Officers Anthony Nastasi and Tyman Gordy stopped the SUV at Ohio and Atlantic avenues. Police said the 32-year-old driver, from Galloway Township, had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, and the vehicle showed evidence of gunfire. The officers carried him into AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus. His injury was not considered life-threatening.
Police also found a loaded handgun inside the vehicle. Authorities said the gun had no serial number, making it a so-called ghost gun.
A passenger, Alicia Gilliard, 36, was taken into custody. She was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a ghost gun, and obstruction. She was being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested later and held at Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center on charges of unlawful possession of a weapon and obstruction.
No arrests had been announced in the shooting itself.
