Two teens were wounded in a shooting early Sunday morning in Atlantic City, police said.
A ShotSpotter alert brought officers to the 600 block of Baltic Avenue at 1:38 a.m., according to Sgt. Paul Aristizabal. Police found the two victims, both 15 years old, at a residence about a block away.
Tameika Wilkins told BreakingAC that the shooting happened up the street from her home. She said that when she heard the gunfire, she opened the door and saw kids, then ran into the middle of the shooting to get the wounded teens to safety. Wilkins said she and her sister applied pressure to the teens' wounds and called police until officers and an ambulance arrived.
A source told BreakingAC that the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system registered about two dozen shots fired. Wilkins said a third teen was grazed, but police said they did not have a record of a third injured teen.
Police investigated for hours, and Wilkins emphasized that the shooting did not happen at her home. Aristizabal said the teens' injuries were not life-threatening.
The article noted this was the second shooting within a few hours in which at least one teen was wounded. An 18-year-old man had been shot earlier Saturday in the area of New York and Sewell avenues.
Police said more details were expected. Anyone with information was asked to call Atlantic City police at 609-347-5766 or text tip411 beginning the message with ACPD.
