An Atlantic City man is jailed in connection with the killing of a man last week. Rahmir Bethea, 33, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the fatal shooting of Tyrone Ford. Ford, 21, was found dead on Atlantic Avenue just before 2 a.m. on Oct. 19. Bethea was arrested the next day, although the arrest was not publicly announced at the time, according to the report. An affidavit of probable cause says investigators found a gray Ford Escape matching the description of the vehicle seen leaving the scene. The SUV was located in the rear lot of a home in the 200 block of North Delaware Avenue. The vehicle is registered to Bethea’s girlfriend, who lives there with him, the affidavit states. Video from the area allegedly shows Bethea and two other men leaving the home and getting into the Escape. One of the men was holding a rifle, according to the affidavit, although it does not specify whether that person was Bethea. The affidavit says Bethea got into the driver’s seat. The vehicle was later seen on Atlantic Avenue near Virginia Avenue shortly before the shooting. A vehicle matching the Escape’s description is then seen slowing down and swerving into the center lane where shell casings were later found, according to the affidavit. The vehicle fled the area and was seen heading north on Martin Luther King Boulevard toward Route 30. The Ford Escape was later seen returning to the Delaware Avenue residence at 2:20 a.m., and Bethea was seen getting out and going inside, the affidavit states. A later warranted search of the home found Bethea and his girlfriend there. In a statement to detectives, Bethea said he was the only person driving the Escape that night. He had been scheduled for a detention hearing Friday, but it was postponed to the following week while the defense awaited more information. Bethea remained in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
