Atlantic City man arrested in September shooting
Normalized · Friday, December 16, 2022
Police said Ibn Demps, 23, of Atlantic City was arrested in December in connection with a Sept. 21 shooting that wounded an 18-year-old man on North South Carolina Avenue in Atlantic City. He was charged with attempted murder and multiple weapons offenses after investigators also recovered a handgun during a search of the residence where he was arrested.
An Atlantic City man was arrested last week in connection with a September shooting that injured a teenager, police said. Ibn Demps, 23, is accused of shooting and wounding an 18-year-old man on Sept. 21. Patrol officers responded at about 4:39 p.m. to the 100 block of North South Carolina Avenue for a report of a man who had been shot. The victim was found there with a gunshot wound. The location is about a block from City Hall. Demps was arrested the previous Friday at a home in the 200 block of North North Carolina Avenue, less than three blocks from the shooting scene. Atlantic City detectives, members of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, and FBI agents took part in the arrest. Police said a warranted search of the residence led to the seizure of a handgun. Demps was charged with attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to possess weapons, and hindering. Court records cited in the article show Demps had been sentenced to Recovery Court in May on two prior drug cases, and the new charges would likely violate that sentence.
