Fugitive Arrested for Atlantic City Fatal Shooting
Phillip Hayes, 36, of Woodbine, was arrested in Atlantic City on an outstanding warrant tied to the August 28, 2022 homicide of Malika McLaughlin. Authorities said he had been a fugitive since October 5, 2022. Hayes and four codefendants were later indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury on charges including murder, conspiracy, weapons offenses, and hindering apprehension.
Phillip Hayes, 36, of Woodbine, was arrested in Atlantic City by members of the Atlantic City Police Department on an outstanding warrant connected to the August 28, 2022 homicide of Malika McLaughlin in Atlantic City.
Authorities said Hayes had been a fugitive since the warrant was issued on October 5, 2022.
Officials said Hayes and four codefendants—Lester Robinson, Quamel Shaffer, Monica Gonzalez, and Quataisa Harrington—were indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury on December 6, 2022.
Hayes and Lester Robinson were indicted on counts of first-degree murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun without a permit, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree hindering apprehension, and second-degree certain persons not to have weapons.
According to authorities, Quamel Shaffer was indicted on counts of first-degree murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun without a permit, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree certain persons not to have weapons.
Monica Gonzalez and Quataisa Harrington were indicted on third-degree hindering apprehension.
