An Atlantic City man has been charged with attempted murder in the July shooting of a 21-year-old man. Police said Wesley Briscoe, 19, shot the victim just after 1 a.m. on July 9 on the Boardwalk at Montpelier Avenue. The victim, whose name was not released, was found wounded and taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus. According to Sgt. Paul Aristizabal, a warrant for Briscoe was issued Aug. 18 following an investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit. He was arrested Wednesday after Officer Latray Butcher, who was working a fixed traffic post at Texas and Atlantic avenues, saw Briscoe walking east on Atlantic Avenue and recognized him as the wanted man. Police said Butcher radioed Briscoe’s direction to responding units, and with help from Surveillance Center personnel, Briscoe was tracked to the first block of South Missouri Avenue. There, Lt. Kevin Fair, Sgt. Mohammad Kaiser and Officer Marquez Jones stopped him and took him into custody without incident. Briscoe is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was being held in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
